Your GPS to Know When Decision Making Is Right

Maybe you are at a crossroad -- a career change, a divorce, a business divorce, loss of a friend, conflict with some one, a breakup, a choice to move, or needing to say no to a client. You can find the shining sun through the clouds by paying attention to the signs, the pros and the cons.

Did you know that there was a statistical decision theory developed in the 1940s and 1950s as a way to incorporate statistical methods in general decision making processes? Yup, I thought that was interesting, but found that pretty much all of my decisions in my life don't resonate with that theory.

To be frank, I've had many moments where I'm facing a four-way sign and haven't got a clue to what it means or what to do. I've made so many dangerous and unclear turns and I've made very wise turns. I say dangerous because I don't believe in a wrong turn. I believe that our choices and decisions pave the way to our experiences, growth, obstacles and success.

I was at a crossroad about seven years ago where I bawled my eyes out. I was alone in my childhood bedroom for about 30 minutes with this horrible feeling in my gut. I felt failure, fear, loneliness, not good enough, I thought to myself what went wrong and questioned every miniscule thing about me and the circumstance I was faced with. It was all moving in my head at lightning speed while the room seemed as if it was spinning. Now that I think about it, almost like my uncool drunk days back in college. I digress.

This moment was probably just as bad as when I found out my high school love cheated on me and I had to decide to forgive or move on -- such a horrible feeling and I'll never forget it. I also bawled my eyes out at the dinner table.

Pushing through all the crossroad clouds, there is a shining sun.

Maybe you are at a crossroad -- a career change, a divorce, a business divorce, loss of a friend, conflict with some one, a breakup, a choice to move, or needing to say no to a client. You can find the shining sun through the clouds by paying attention to the signs, the pros and the cons.

Believe me when I say that being at a crossroad is a good thing.

It means belief is tugging at your heart.
It means trust is whispering in your ear.
It means growth is knocking on your door.

Evaluate all possible options so you can visualize the potential results or better yet, visualize what you WANT to see and WANT to happen.

My Crossroad Decision

That moment I cried alone in my room seven years ago, I found myself faced with the decision on continuing Identity Magazine alone. I had just received an email that my partner decided to go in another direction than the magazine.

I dug to reflect on all that I succeeded during our venture as a team. I evaluated all that I had accomplished. After reflection for a few moments, I gained a burst of confidence and heard my inner voice say, "Shit, just go for it. You have nothing to lose."

It was right. At the time I was single, living rent-free, had a 9-5 job, and opportunity was all around me. I made a choice at that very moment to never give up on Identity Magazine no matter how challenging it was going to be.

Fast Forward

The past 10 years have been a crazy rollercoaster that I don't ever want to get off. I not only run the online magazine, I am an author, a paid speaker, and I host signature workshops and conferences.

If you've been following me you know that I'm celebrating 10 years of entrepreneurship and have created a huge celebration -- Identity LIVE at Sea 2016. It's our 3rd conference + celebration + cruise to Bermuda!

I took time to reflect on the past 10 years of my entrepreneurial journey and gave each year a theme. This month it's all about crossroads and I invite you to read the first two themes: "Let's Talk Vision" and "Holy Sh*t We're Doing It".

I encourage you to welcome any crossroad moment into your life because there's an exciting journey around the corner waiting just for you!

What we need is a great course-correcting mechanism -- a GPS for the Soul -- to help us find our way back to that centered place, from which everything is possible.

Because no one knows better than you what helps you de-stress and tap into that place of peace inside yourself, it's important for you to create your very own GPS guide -- a personalized collection of whatever helps you course-correct. Email us at GPS@huffingtonpost.com and we'll set you up with your very own HuffPost blogger account to share your guide on the site.
