Every Day Is A Good Day For Walking

This is a poem I wrote for my beloved Amber, the day after she passed away 3 years ago. I still miss her every day, but I am eternally grateful for the lessons she taught me -- especially this one.
Every day is an experience to enjoy and treasure.

"Every Day is a Good Day for Walking"

Deep brown eyes wake me each morn,
I smile, feeling so lucky that she was born.
Different light, different weather, we pay it no mind
Every day is a good day for walking, she reminds.

Patient waiting, tail wagging, as I open the door
No leash, no collar, the freedom to explore.
I have ideas! Let me show you the way!
Every day is a good day for walking, she says.

We must check the kingdom, the smells tell the tale
So many bunnies to chase, happy without fail.
I was here; all is well, each time she marks
Every day is a good day for walking, she remarks.

Each walk is different, has its own pace
She stops, saunters, trots; a smile on her face.
So smart, whistle listens, we wait to cross
Every day is a good day for walking, she's boss.

Her pack each day; her place firmly known
A job to nurture and police the hill she owns.
Surveying, playing, with the wind she flies
Every day is a good day for walking, she sighs.

The weekends are best, a massage to heal
The walks so fun, the front seat appeal.
We love each blessed hour, so many miles
Every day is a good day for walking, she smiles.

No sadness on return, the rhythm of 3 a day
Knowing another will come, it's time to stay
To refuel, to nap, to talk, it means
Every day is a good day for walking, she dreams.

Like life, a walk is about what we will find
It's about the experience, no matter the kind.
Enjoy the moments, be joyful, present, we ought
Every day is a good day for walking, she taught.
