2012 Election

This week will be great fun to watch because the delegate arithmetic simply doesn't work after Tuesday. Then, the real Hillary will be revealed in one of two scenarios.

But now that it's clear to virtually everyone that -- barring some catastrophic event -- Clinton will not be the nominee in 2008, her actions seem to make sense only as a 2012 strategy.

Weaken Obama and give an opening to McCain and the Clinton name will be mud in Democratic circles for decades. All of the good of the Clinton presidency will go down the tubes.

With the last chances of winning the nomination slipping away, the question increasingly arises whether Clinton should hope for the number two spot. The answer is a clear yes.

Clinton won't be able to keep bashing Obama, at least not publicly, once the Democratic race is officially over and she has to put on her team-player-let's -bring-the-party-together act.

I've been wondering what in the world the Clinton campaign was still doing in this election. Then it occurred to me: She's already running against President McCain in 2012.

Among other strange and wonderful words of wisdom Groucho Marx left us, there's a quote that comes to mind as I watch this campaign: "Please accept my resignation. I don't care to belong to any club that will have me as a member."

Every day that Hillary Clinton stays in the race is another day she spends money damaging Obama's chances against McCain. It almost makes you ask -- does she want him to lose?
