Would Buckley even recognize "conservative journalism" today, where pundits rush to broadcast their childish Obama taunts and sloppy P.T. Barnums like Andrew Breitbart encourage a new generation of "journalists" to skirt the law?
Fox News' first segment on James O'Keefe's arrest was as funny as it was disappointing. During the report, Tim Gaughan called the news a "very weird story that probably needs a lot of context and a lot of looking into."
Last year, the mainstream media treated O'Keefe's exploits against ACORN as an example of investigative "gotcha" journalism, with few pointing out that he doctored the videos and never released the original footage.
ACORN wrongly gave advice to people who were trying to take advantage of public and private funds for illegal purposes. Were they breaking the law or the public trust? In either case, not Abu Ghraib by a long shot.
