Sean Hannity and his ilk can link Obama with Ayers but I think Ayers remains, as I portray him, an ideologue and America hater, while Obama is neither.
Carl Bernstein | Posted 05.02.2008 | Politics
The resort by Hillary and her campaign to guilt-by-association, of which the Bill Ayers allegations are but one example, is, even for some of her most steadfast advocates, particularly dismaying.

We know that the right-wing learned how to spin and manipulate the news using outlets like Drudge and Fox. And rather than fight this system, Clinton campaign advisers like Sid Blumenthal decided to exploit it for their own ends.
Cenk Uygur | Posted 04.29.2008 | Politics
The latest right-wing game is to pin controversial figures, who might have said or done anything objectionable at any point in their lifetimes, to Obama.
Greg Mitchell | Posted 04.25.2008 | Politics
Bill Clinton pardoned two former Ayers-related radicals, which was controversial in New York during Hillary's first Senate run. Had she really never heard about it?

Hillary must continue to draw contrasts with Obama, raise questions about the nature and extent of his associations with Rev. Wright and terrorist leader William Ayers, and raise more questions about his values in comparison with hers.
Dan Brown | Posted 04.24.2008 | Politics
What may be uglier than the campaigns' recent below-the-belt jabs is the media's insistent pushing of the storyline that this protracted campaign is irreparably damaging the Dems' chances come November.
Paul W. Bucha | Posted 04.23.2008 | Politics
it is deeply troubling that both Clinton and McCain are using the mere fact that Obama and William Ayers served on a board together to fan the flames of political personal destruction.
Richard Walden | Posted 04.22.2008 | Politics
It's fair to imagine what an anti-McCain campaign launched by independent groups supporting Obama will look like if left unfettered.

The mainstream media seems intent on confirming that it has so internalized the Right's framing and messages they have now become part of its DNA. The first of the latest round of exhibits proving this was offered into evidence during last week's ABC debate. This was followed by the New York Times' epic revelation of the unseemly complicity between the Pentagon and the media in delivering the Bush administration's talking points on Iraq via "a kind of Trojan media horse" -- Pentagon-approved, prepped, and financially-enriched "military analysts" dutifully parroting the Bush party line, with nary a raised eyebrow from the TV stations and newspapers offering these highly-decorated sock puppets their prestigious platforms. And it's not just the media. Witness Hillary Clinton repeating the Rove-promoted lie that MoveOn was against intervention in Afghanistan after 9/11.

The morning after last Wednesday's debate, Don Imus called Obama "almost a bigger pussy than she [Hillary] is." Imus is not alone in seeming to want to give Obama a shot of testosterone.

What someone did forty years ago should not damn them forever. But that's assuming the offending individual pays their debt to society and repents. Bill Ayers has done neither.
RJ Eskow | Posted 04.18.2008 | Media
There are still a few things I haven't heard anybody say, and the right is already cuing up ABC's next line of questioning.

For months, now, there has been an effort to frame the Democratic front-runner not just as a bad candidate, but as a potential violent threat to the American public.

It is clear that Hillary has no limits. Barack Obama, attempting to take the high ground, gave her a pass on her despicable behavior.
Mona Gable | Posted 04.17.2008 | Politics
Hillary's desperation for blue-collar votes and her tiresome attacks on Obama are leading her down some awfully treacherous trails.
Cenk Uygur | Posted 04.17.2008 | Media
This game sickens me. All I want to know now is whether the so-called news folks are in on it or if they are fools being played like clueless puppets.

If Hillary Clinton thinks it's a big deal that Barack Obama has crossed paths with Bill Ayers, the political discourse is stuck in neutral.
Marc Cooper | Posted 04.16.2008 | Home
During Wednesday night's debate, George Stephanopoulos didn't flinch from trying to smear Obama by association with former '60s radical Bill Ayers. Too bad George didn't ask Hillary about her summer spent working for a law firm run by Communists.
Greg Mitchell | Posted 04.16.2008 | Politics
Gibson and Stephanopoulos focused mainly on trivial issues as Clinton and Obama faced off in Philadelphia. They, and their network, should hang their collective heads in shame.
