In Defense Of Sarah Palin
I have to at least try to defend the point she was (so badly) trying to make. Alaska was on the front lines of the Cold War. It's a valid point, especially with a newly-resurgent and newly-belligerent Russia.

What disturbs me most about the Palin pick is not so much the woman's lack of experience, judgment, honesty, or intelligence, but the cynical calculation that these things don't matter.

McCain's convinced me that unlike any other politician before him, he is also a great magician. Like David Blain or David Copperfield, he is able to pull tricks from thin air.

A Commander-in-Chief needs to have the killer instinct to understand you destroy your enemy, thoroughly; you do not let up to give him time to breathe when he is flailing.

Today was a banner day for Obama in the national polls (especially the one that puts him up nine points, 52/43) -- but they are largely meaningless, since that is not how we elect our president.

McCain's desire for a break is understandable, given the poll numbers and the seemingly endless stream of gaffes, flubs, and inconsistent statements coming out of his campaign.

Voters don't want change. When the American voting public goes to the polls and re-elects the same bunch of losers to Congress year after year, they should expect to get more of the same.

For the better part of four months, besides working overtime in a job that supports our family, my husband has been volunteering locally, making phone calls, maintaining political blogs to get the message out, and keeping up on the latest issues of the presidential race.

Sarah works hard to convert her fellow Republicans with her unique insider advantage. She realizes how the Republican message works, how it exploits fear. "It's all the same -- that terrorists are coming and we need to be on offense."

The national trend for Obama may have turned around in his favor in just the last couple of days. So even though things look grim here, Obama is already starting to bounce back.

While the Obama campaign made many mistakes in responding to Sarah Palin, they didn't resort to the attacks on her family and faith that some in the media did.

The 'either you are with us or against us' election strategy created a paradigm much too simple for today's world. We cannot strip down who is going to govern this country to one question: Are you blue or are you red?

It's time to fight fire with fire -- point out McCain's most embarassing votes, and paint him as an extremist or a party hack while doing so. Also paint him as anti-middle-class.
