Bush's Olympic Doctrine
Sunday, President Bush defended his decision to attend the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics. Although I don't want to say it, his reasoning and explanation are right on target.

For many American Jews there is the apparent moral conundrum -- how do you support Tibet over China without supporting Palestine over Israel?
Adam talked to the Huffington Post about the release of his new film Gunnin' for that #1 Spot, the current state of the Free Tibet movement, Obama, and why Brooklyn should secede.
The purpose of my trip to Lhasa has not only been to witness the city in the aftermath of the riots, but to discover for myself what is meant by the term 'Tibetan culture' and look into its current welfare.
Early on the morning of April 28th, around 2,000 Tibetans gathered around the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala to mark the 49th day of Tibetans killed by Chinese police during the protests.
As the 2008 Olympics in Beijing grow closer, global protests continue to swell. Decrying China's policies on Darfur and Tibet, as well as its notori...
The only way to clearly denounce the corrupt behavior of the Chinese government is to withdraw corporate sponsorship from the Olympics.
Can we come clean and let the spirit of the Games pervade and leave the ugliness alone?
A boycott of Beijing 2008 would do more than slight the Communist party. It would reject the aspirations of 1.3 billion Chinese souls. And that could destabilize the 21st century.
Well after the deadline the Chinese authorities imposed, thousands of Tibetans have joined fresh demonstrations -- still waving the banned Tibetan flags and displaying photos of the Dalai Lama.
China has taken steps to make it more costly, at least symbolically, to attack its narrative of strength, efficiency and progress at becoming a "normal" world power.
The thought of rioting and looting and blood in the streets there is too painful to comprehend.
Protesting the Beijing Olympics are not enough to bring independence to Tibet, democracy to China or allow the Chinese people to finally practice freedom of speech and religion.
The Giraffe Heroes Project sent a team to the five-day Seeds of Compassion conference in Seattle. As a Giraffe staffer, I talked with hundreds of teac...
The UN estimates that two-thirds of the world's population will live in areas of water stress within the next 20 years. By the numbers, much of that population is in Asia.

I guess it is just a matter of time before all the old Communist/Capitalist suppressors are gone. Maybe then, China can join the world and help us all heal it, for our own good.
Well then I guess it won't be too long before some American ambassador goes to China, and tries to explain to them that freedom is a dangerous thing, and too many freedoms are bad. If that sounds crazy, that's what happened when Paul Cellucci came to Canada. He tried to tell us that we have too many freedoms and that's a bad thing and we would be happier if we were like Americans with limited freedoms.
Needless to say, we didn't listen to him!
You seem interested in democracy, a fine thing. But in persuit of your own personal beliefs you not willing to take into consideration several facts:
1.Chinese as a society value more cohesion and societal harmony more than the shrill "I, Me, Mine"individualism favored by some petty bourgious liberals.
2. The concept of keeping China a single poltical entity, is compeltely ingnored or simply not understood by many of the same Westerners.
The wise leadership of Chinese Communist Party observed with horror the chaos and suffering caused by Soviet republics' disintegration and switch to Western style capitalism.
Chinese communist leadership is working to prevent the same thing in China.
The need of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
Especially when you're talking about 1.5 people.
You are correct that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Only here, the many are the people of China and the few are the corrupt and undemocratically appointed party cadres who run the country, and murder or jail those who express a desire for freedom. The Party leaders are not horrified by the disruption in the old Soviet Union. They are horrified that they might be forced to give up their power and privileges. That's why they sent in the "People's" Army to kill the people protesting in Tianemen Square.
Your post is nothing but a rehash of old Party propaganda which persuades only those who are afraid of thinking for themselves, one of whom appears to be you.
