Officials: NY men being watched in terrorism probe

AP | TOM HAYS and DEVLIN BARRETT | Posted 05.25.2011 | Home

NEW YORK — Law enforcement officials say a "handful" of men in New York are under surveillance as possible associates of the chief suspect in a potential terrorist bomb plot.

The only person arrested so far is Najibullah Zazi (nah-jee-BOO'-lah ZAH'-zee), a 24-year-old Denver airport shuttle driver.

But an official told The Associated Press on Wednesday that investigators expect to make more arrests.

Another official said the possible conspirators are no longer considered a threat because the plot was thoroughly disrupted and they remain under heavy surveillance.

Both officials spoke to The AP on condition of anonymity because the investigation continues.
