Do we really need to throw food away by the date printed on the carton? If not, how long do we have before it really goes bad? And what does 'going bad' really mean?
Some of us adhere to them with religious severity and others use them as an insignificant suggestion, but either way, expiration dates are mysterious....
First my eggs came in a carton with an expiration date stamped on one end. Then they stamped the eggs themselves. This was unsettling. Even my fruit has the decency to use a sticker.
