The USDA is currently deciding whether or not to approve an application by Dow Chemical for its controversial genetically engineered (GE) corn variety resistant to hazardous herbicides.
If Walmart refuses to stock Monsanto's GE sweet corn, it would send a strong signal that there is no market for this genetically engineered food and could actually stop the seed before it's even planted.
Manufacturers have decided that, if given the choice, we might not choose to buy GMO products. So, they've decided not to give us a choice, which doesn't seem very American.
