Iran: A Gay-Free Paradise For Social Conservatives!
At last! America's social conservatives have found a soul-mate. Apparently, Ahmadinejad runs a gay-free paradise!
At last! America's social conservatives have found a soul-mate. Apparently, Ahmadinejad runs a gay-free paradise!
In his speech at Columbia University, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad repeated two myths about the Holocaust.
Homosexuality has not only been tolerated but sometimes even openly celebrated in Islamic societies for more than 1,400 years.
I have read the original transcripts of Ahmadinejad's speech in Farsi and want to inform you that he never said "Israel must be wiped off the map."
A few quotes by Ahmadinejad have been misquoted, mistranslated and misinterpreted to the point of distorting reality, drawing him as a powerful anti-Semitic dictator with an apocalyptic vision.
Williams is likely to continue to obsess about two issues throughout the interview: Iran's nuclear program and Ahmadinejad's rhetoric on Israel.
Is it possible that Turkey, as a neighbor of Iran with shared interests in the stability of the region and with superior cultural understanding may be in a better position to appeal to Iranian senses?
The bubble is that we think we're the greatest nation on earth, and have the right to disregard the opinions of other countries. Why should anyone complain about having greatness thrust upon them?
If Ahmadinejad wasn't afforded the opportunity to speak, and to offer up more inflammatory remarks, then the right would be without this easy ammunition in its ongoing campaign to invade Iran.
We are told how dangerous Ahmadinejad is because he doesn't believe in the Holocaust. I fail to see that connection.
Ahmadinejad surely understands that in giving women power, women could begin to have a much greater impact on the Iranian society that now holds them hostage.
Iran's oft-stated nuclear ambitions remain the single greatest threat to world peace. But instead of recognizing the Iranian threat for what it is, Europeans continue to focus on blaming themselves for past colonial failures.
His grasp of history seems so tentative. He smirks a lot. He wants to visit Ground Zero, perhaps to get his hands on some of that 9/11 political equity.
Republican heaven is a special place, even more than normal heaven. Imagine a world with no homosexuals and where Americans can stay forever fighting in Iraq.
I believe that many states -- Iran, among others -- have leaders who are capable of acting irrational, hence posing a serious threat both to other countries as well as to their own.
Would President Bush allow the same sorts of confrontations President Ahmadinejad has? I doubt it. He doesn't even allow himself to be confronted by Americans who disagree with him.

I don't expect much from Brian Williams. He's way too obedient.

Nice post. Keep up the good work.
It would also be interesting to see if he will repeat comments about the Hollocaust and Israel which received very little notice by American medias! Comments which I witnessed on TV which were subsequently burried in media archives.
In these comments he clarified that he did not deny the Hollocaust, but offered the opinion that the figures were exagerated. An opinion shared by many people of prominance who are afraid to voice .
He also stated since the Hollocaust occured in Europe, mainly in Germany, and was against German and European Nationals,Israel should have been established on the European continent, and not in Palestine, with Palestine and her neighbors paying the price of the Hollocaust by enduring Zionist expansionism, and excesses.
I just watched Brian William's September interview with Ahmadinejad and frankly he's not the demon that America has desperately tried to label him.
I've read an actual interpretation of his speech about annhialating Israel and his statement was mischaracterized. The actual quote in Farsi was interpreted as saying "those who hold power in Israel will be ...".
He never denied the Holocaust. He wondered why 6 million (Jews) of the 58 million civilians who died in WWII have been given special status and the others are forgotten. He said people should be able to research the Holocaust as any other Historic event. People shouldn't fear imprisonment. He spoke about how historic revisionism has been commonplace throughout time with regards to all historic events and thus research should be encouraged.
He wondered why the Palestinians should suffer for the Holocaust. This is a fair and legitimate question. And I'd expect it's on the mind of most Arabs and Persians in the Middle East who've watched the Zionist colonists take Palestinian's lands w/ Western support.
Brian Williams seemed uncomfortable with the logical answers he received. He had hoped the answers would be anti-semitic/crazy/evil, but all he got were logical (yet controversial) responses.
This is a perfect example of how the Administration and the media have all jumped on board to demonize him, and why many are terrified about letting him speak to the American people, Because then people realize what a farce all this really is.
Are you kidding me?
You can be put to death for being homosexual, women are oppressed, he funds and arms terrorists that kill american soliders, wants to destroy our ally (isreal) as well as the u.s, so on and so forth. You are crazy if you truly believe he is anything other than a demon.
"frankly he's not the demon that America has desperately tried to label him"
So I guess if Bush decided that he would hang 29 homosexuals tommorrow at sun-rise that he would also not be the "demon that America has desperately tried to label him?"
Does that sound like a nice guy to you? I hope not...
1. Ahmadinejad is not hanging 29 homosexuals "tommorow at sunrise".
"The 29 who were executed this morning were involved in the smuggling of narcotics on a wide scale, organised crime, murder and armed robbery," Tehran prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi was quoted as saying by state radio"
2. Ahmadinejad is the President of Iran, he controls neither the courts, the military, nor foreign policy.
3. Bush as Governor could and did order executions. As President, he can't openly order executions.
Your analogy needs work.
I'm not saying the guy isn't a thug. But so are about 60% of the world's other leaders. I'm saying that the arguments that have been made to try to mislead America into bombing Iran is not the fact he's a bigot against gay people. The reasons that have been outlined by the administration and news teams are largely distorted and untrue.
Is Ahmadinejad any different than the Sauds with regards to gay people? Are we considering bombing Saudi Arabia?
That's the point I'm making here. He's not a Holocaust denier, he didn't threaten to wipe Israel off the map, and so the "threat" against Israel is basically an overstatement. He said those running Israel would be abolished - which sounds like he's talking "regime change" which is basically what America and Israel have been threatening against him since the "Axis of Evil" rhetoric began.
I think company-man Brian's assignment is to support the drumbeat to war. He will try to give the impression that Iran is a "grave threat" to brave Americans and that its leaders should once again be taken out. When the current government in Iran is gone, Exxon-Mobil and other oil corporations can return! Just like in Iraq. Mission accomplished!
Brian wants to keep his cool job, who wouldn't?
