I understand many of my Republican colleagues in Washington are feeling pressure from within their party not to compromise. We need our friends across the aisle to stand with the American people in these difficult times -- not just with their party.
The American people deserve to hear a real debate about what government surveillance programs are doing in their name. Only then can we make an informed decision about whether the claimed security benefits of those programs justify their costs.
Some of the best times I've spent in Colorado have been in the backcountry with my mom and siblings, and more recently, with my own kids. That is why I'm concerned to see today's kids spending more time browsing the Internet than exploring nature.
