The 2012 Aquaphor New York City Triathlon is sponsoring a patriotic underwear run on July 6th. The annual event is one of the most popular underwear runs in the world and is advertised as "just 500 strangers running around in their underwear."
I worried I was going it alone at the New York City Marathon. I was wrong. I had the help of more people than I can possibly thank. From the stranger who gave me pre-race Chapstick, to the volunteer who let me lean sweaty and unstable against him post-race, I was not alone.
All soon-to-be, first-time NYC Marathoners, like me, know that the training is complete (through heat, rain, an earthquake, and a hurricane), so now it's time to get ourselves excited for the race and as prepared as possible.
In the days leading up to the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, countless runners will remember the woman who jumpstarted the women's running revolution three decades ago, and who supported and encouraged runners of all abilities until her death.
120 days until I (fingers crossed) complete the 2011 NYC Marathon. I'm already a few weeks into training, taking those initial steps in the journey of my first-ever marathon -- steps that fill me with equal parts excitement and fear.
