The Obama administration's decision to open 167 million acres of pristine ocean to drilling is poor policy. It threatens our coastal communities while perpetuating our dependence on dirty fossil fuels.
This fall, BP wil use a high-tech drill from a gravel island in the Beaufort Sea, it plans to reach two miles deep, turn and bore another six to eight miles horizontally to tap an oil reservoir in federal waters.
Obama came straight out of the blue this week with a decision to start up some crazy new offshore drilling campaign. It's an opportunity to ask some pretty substantive questions. Unfortunately, the media all had much better things to talk about.
