HONOLULU — Two of three jet carriers that fly interisland routes in Hawaii are merging.

The parent companies of Mokulele Airlines and go! announced Tuesday they have formed a joint venture and will continue to operate under both brand names.

Phoenix-based Mesa Air Group Inc., which operates go!, will own 75 percent of the new company, while Mokulele shareholders will own 25 percent.

The partnership is the latest in the fast-evolving interisland market in recent years that saw both startup carriers enter Hawaii and the abrupt shutdown of Aloha Airlines. It will now compete against Hawaiian Airlines.

Passengers can continue to book travel on both Mokulele and go! and existing reservations will be honored.

Bankruptcy judge rejects both bids to buy Coyotes

AP | BOB BAUM | Posted 11.30.2009 | Home

PHOENIX — A bankruptcy judge has rejected both bids to buy the Phoenix Coyotes.

Judge Redfield T. Baum turned down the offers of Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie and the NHL in a 31-page ruling on Wednesday.

However, he left the door open for the NHL to buy the team if it amends its offer.

The ruling comes on the eve of the start of the NHL season after nearly five months of often bitter legal wrangling between Balsillie and the league.

Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes took the team into Chapter 11 on May 5 with a plan to sell to Balsillie, contingent on moving the franchise to Hamilton, Ontario, over the NHL's vehement objections.

Astros delay Cards' NL Central party with 3-0 win

AP | CHRIS DUNCAN | Posted 11.24.2009 | Home

The St. Louis Cardinals missed their first chance to win the NL Central. Now, they can clinch it on Thursday without even stepping on the diamond.

Houston rookie Bud Norris shut out St. Louis for the second time and the Astros delayed the Cardinals' division championship celebration for at least another day with a 3-0 win on Wednesday night.

The magic number for St. Louis dropped to one when the Cubs lost in Milwaukee before this game ended. But Norris (6-3) pitched six shutout innings and Jose Valverde tossed a scoreless ninth for his 24th save.

"They are one win away from clinching this thing, but we definitely wanted to give them a fight," Norris said. "I think we did."

The Astros ended the fourth and sixth innings with double plays as the Cardinals continued to have problems with Norris. The right-hander won his major league debut in St. Louis on Aug. 2, allowing two hits in seven shutout innings.
