Amid conflict, naming divisions, dogma and disappointment is all too easy. Perhaps differences of opinion might be kept in check by focusing on the name of our neighbor in need. This is where unity matters. Our naming should be directed to their service.
While I was silent, I witnessed the trials of other LGBTQ people and straight allies whose ordination as ministers, deacons or elders were either withheld or defrocked because someone was out of the closet or broke church law by marrying same-sex couples.

This Sunday, a change to the Presbyterian Church's ordination requirements will go into effect that will allow for the ordination of faithful lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members who live openly and honestly about how God made them.
