It is pretty obvious why the rich are investing hundreds of millions of their own money to elect Republicans and to defeat Obama. These are investments from which they expect to amass enormous returns by exercising control over government financial policies.
It appears the Democratic Party's convention in Charlotte produced a better one for Obama. As history has shown, the bounces don't matter very much -- Dukakis, Kerry and McCain each got substantial bounces after their conventions. You know the rest.
The Republican Party appears wedded to a singular view of what "success" in life is -- a vision that is increasingly disconnected from emerging new realities. It is exclusionary, anti-inclusive, and opposed to serving the common good.
