The National 9/11 Commission executive summary begins; "At 8:46 on the morning of September 11, 2001, the United States became a nation transformed." Transformed we are indeed, to a new normal that is a more worried normal. But is it a wiser normal?
As we approach the 10th anniversary of 9/11, as with every previous anniversary, we find ourselves once again trying to make sense of that unprecedented event; once more trying to find a fitting and worthy way to commemorate the tragic anniversary.
The second I heard his voice, I knew something was wrong. I had never heard this tone before. "Terry," he said, "the building has been hit by a plane, there is a lot of smoke. We have cell phones and we're going in to the stairwell."
