A bill would have added coverage for millions of the nation's uninsured children. Yet this is the second time Bush nixed it, even though the bill had extremely wide bipartisan support.

Mr. Bush's SCHIP veto reflects not only his ideology, but the mindset of the his party which pledges to protect the so-called "right to life" while spitting in the eye of the living.

George Bush doesn't want you to think about sick children. He wants you thinking about the fine print of health insurance policies.

Last month, I noted that the coordinated attack against expanding SCHIP had failed miserably, leaving conservatives desperate. Who knew how desperate they would get?

When Bush said that S-CHIP eligibility levels were too high, I thought of families who caught in the middle of making too much for Medicaid but not enough for private insurance.

Now that the president has chosen to ignore the 10 million reasons to support SCHIP, the battle returns to Congress where I will be leading the fight to override his veto.

Instead of the usual political bickering, I prefer to look at the numbers, plain and simple. Somehow, the president's plan just doesn't seem to add up.
