My Conversation with Jimmy Carter

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Earlier today, I sat down with former President Jimmy Carter for a wide-ranging conversation about the current presidential race, world affairs and his new book, A Remarkable Mother.

I also specifically asked him about the damage done to America's reputation around the globe over the past several years and what the next U.S. President can do to repair that reality.

The full conversation airs tonight on PBS.

Jimmy Carter is the only American President, that I have ever heard speak of peace, as a goal for America. What a novel idea. It is more obvious as time goes on, that his administration was sabotaged from within and without. It was George H. W. Bush ("formerly" of the C .I .A.) who wanted Carter out. He succeeded in defeating a sitting president running for a second term. He did so thru the Iran Hostage Crisis, where the Iranians held Americans hostage, until Reagan was inaugurated. It is now known that George H. W. Bush, Poppy himself, along with a former C. I. A. founder, and future Attorney General Bill Casey, successfully convinced the Iranians to hold on to them, until Carter was out of office, with promises of weapons. This of course led to the infamous Iran/Contra Scandal. Since that year, 1980, there has been a Bush as president or a heartbeat away for 19 of the last 27 years. Incidentally, Jimmy Carter is the only recent President who has not been caught

How about the Jimmy Carter suggesting to next USA president at his swearing in Mnologue, "When I'm president we, if ever thinking of going to war in a foreign country, we will FIRST bomb the American Embassy along with every American in that country!" A quagmire? You betcha!

Tavis-

Looking forward to watching.

Could you please explain why your show is regularly preempted on the West Coast though?
It seems any excuse of a show will do to push you off the air, and it pisses me off.

Tavis, why hang out with the worst ex-president of the United States? Carter is delusional about Hamas, N. Korea, Hugo Chavez, and spends his days embarrasing America and giving legitimacy to its enemies.

But he is giving us a preview of what an Obama presidency would be like ;-)

You mean the only president to mediate a mid east peace deal that still stands?. The only president to instigate solutions the oil that is destroying our planet and causing wars? To win a Nobel Peace prize? The Ex-President that consists of talking to enemies with the goal of friendship, rather than creating an Empiristic regime.
Carter was the greatest President sense FDR and his New Deal.
Now that repugs have managed to dismantle The New Deal. You have screwed the country and we want it back Fuck your wars and fuck your corporate control.

How about giving legitimacy back to the United State of America.
