I received the gift of this Romanian mantra serendipitously, validating my belief that when the student is ready the teacher appears. My teachers were a group of children in a small village in Romania. Each morning as the church bell rang; the children would gather in the courtyard outside my window and chant this mantra.

As I watched and listened, I could feel the energy and the joy of the children as they danced and sang.

I was witnessing peace as vibrant state of being. The definition of vibrant is a state of pulsating energy, engaged, being fully present in a world that one perceives. I had always thought of the state of peace as quiet and receptive. As I started a daily practice of chanting this mantra, I felt fully alive and vibrant.

This mantra taught me that a heart that rests in peace is alive with energy. This energy is one's life force or chi. All spiritual traditions speak of this essential life force that is our spiritual birthright and is an integral part of our being.

As I cultivated an interior life in a state of peace, I experienced a life filled with joy, gratitude, compassion, and kindness.

I learned that every cell in my body is happy because happiness comes from within, being content-peaceful and not dependent on circumstances and events externally.

My intention in going to Romania was to share my gifts and to be of service to others. Yet as it often happens, the giver becomes the receiver of a more precious gift from those they serve.
