Featured Fifty Poetry: In Spate

Terese Coe's poems and translations have recently appeared in the TLS, Threepenny Review, Poetry, Ploughshares, The Cincinnati Review, New American Writing, Alaska Quarterly Review, Tar River Poetry, Smartish Pace, Poetry Review, Agenda, The Warwick Review, New Walk, and Orbis, among others and several anthologies. Her poem "More" was heli-dropped over London in multiples as part of the 2012 London Olympics' Poetry Parnassus.

Part of this poem was written while contemplating a trip to Western Australia.

In Spate

He makes a respectable effort
to see the facts and finds
a line has been drawn
in the void. What precession
of the equinoxes, what
symmetry. The wind and
stones know his game,
and he is struck
by the dichotomy
that anywhere she flew
would only be closer to him.
She's already as far as anyone can get
and still be on the planet.
