82nd & Fifth: IN THE VOID by Betsy Kornhauser

Sanford Gifford uses infinitesimal brushstrokes to focus the viewer's attention on this grand gorge, as it was called at the time, in the Catskill Mountains. "The artist daringly creates an enormous void," says curator Betsy Kornhauser, "and what he does so brilliantly is to fill the void with this extraordinary light."

Discover wonderful details in Gifford's painting, including a small house with a plume of smoke rising from its chimney.
