Longtime economist and author, William Engdahl claims that Georgia is the world's most unstable region today. Engdahl spoke with The Real News Network; watch the story here.

On the surface, the latest battle in South Ossettia seems to be about territorial control but as William Engdahl explains, there is much more happening behind the scenes. Notable strategic American interests such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and military presence in the Czech Republic and Poland are at stake and the Russian government is not sitting idle and doing nothing to protect their own.

The latest Georgian offensive has many implications for everyone involved, especially N.A.T.O. whom plays a central role in this part of the world. A strong supporter for the Republic of Georgia, the United States has been making efforts to bring them into N.A.T.O. but this latest attack may have done more damage than anticipated. It will be further evidence used by Russia to support their view that Georgia's membership is a national security threat in more ways than the obvious one.

Engdahl believes that "this whole move around Georgia, the geopolitics around Georgia are an essential part of the U.S.' march towards, Russia"

This morning on WashJournal's C-Span an associated press reporter was on explaining why Russia is wrong for invading Geogia. Many folks called in challenging the reporter for spreading disinformation from the BushAdmin . The reporter got offended that the AP reputation was being challenged. Our government is starting to get a rude awakening from its citizens. We will not take this repeatedly corporate news organizations pimping the government disinformation, misinformation and lies.
When it was reported that Russia had invaded Georgia unprovoked, I remembered reading where one of McCain campaign advisors was until just recently a lobbyist for Georgia. I said something isn't right, what''s going on here. I could find no USA newspaper reporting background information on what was really going on, it was all the same theme - Russia invaded Georgia. Only foreign news services reported that Georgia had first invaded South Ossetia, and Russia came to this country's rescue. The Georgian aggression was sanctioned by USA.
All of this reminded me of when a couple years ago USA goaded Israel into attacking Hezbollah in So Lebanon.
We can not elect a John Sidney McCain as President to continue perpetuating this neocon's world death and destruction in our name. No more...

The cons are desperate to start a world war before they lose control of the USA.

They are winning. They have managed to frame the Georgian attack on Ossetia as the "Russian attack on Georgia".

Ossetia was disputed territory, Georgia has no particular right to it. Stalin grouped them together. Georgia just grabbed the land after the USSR broke up., The Ossetans want to be independent or part of Russia. The Ossetians have NEVER wanted to be part of Georgia.

McCain and Bush deliberately encouraged Georgia to attack.

When will the media start doing their job? I am not the savviest person when it comes to Russia and the political situation there but I know there is so much more to the story that is not being reported. I just don"t get it. It"s like the MSM has just given up. There are very few reporters these days that do more than skim the surface about important issues. Rather they would spend their time talking about John Edwards and his love child!

The media in Europe and other democracies are doing a much better job. American main stream media is nothing more than a propaganda arm of the Administration. It has been for decades.

During the run up to the Iraq War, media from other countries were calling Bush on his misrepresentation of the facts. That is why the huge demonstrations occurred around the world at the time. Millions of people marched in the streets carrying signs that read "No Blood for Oil", "Bush is Lying", "Cheney - War Monger", etc.

The American people have been dumbed down in practically every aspect of their political and economic knowledge.

At the end of the cold war, an ex-KGB operative stated that there was as much propaganda in the US as there was in the Soviet Union. The only difference was that the Americans believed theirs.

This issue is so deep and multifaceted that this blackout by the media regarding it smells like a coverup, and it's because the GOP is so deep, deeply involved, mostly John McCain and his happy caveat of lobbyist, particularly his foreign advisor, whom has influenced McCains decisions regarding Georgia before. Is everyone else blind and can't see that the Georgian President had and honest expectation that the USA would be supportive of his saber rattling towards Russia, AND is so dense that he didn't recognize this was about making McCain look presidential, even though he is powerless at this time to do anything.

The Political Insidiousness that is plaguing this country had better be put in check by the citizens of THIS country, before ANOTHER country tries to do it for us.

Isn't that why we are now still fighting a war on terror 5 years later?

Empire has no conscience and therefore, no empathy.
