Pumpkin carving is one of my favorite activities of the season. But let's face it, it can be tricky. For years, I gravitated toward paint and other accessories to deck out our pumpkins, because carving intimidated me a bit. The recipe works well. A cup of grapes or other fruit can be added to vary the taste during the process. I do not know how far the “enliven” part went probably just light a candle inside.
