WASHINGTON DC - In a not unexpected development, Senator Arlen Specter announced today that he has joined the Central Committee of the Khmer Rouge. "All my life", said Specter, "I have worked tirelessly to round up professionals and intellectuals while relocating urban populations into agricultural communes".

Specter's announcement, which the Senator made while drooling and wearing his pants as a hat, was greeted with weary indifference on Capitol Hill. In the past week Specter has joined then quit the Christian Falangist Party Of America, the Japanese Communist Party, Shiromani Akali Dal, Movimento Esperanca Portugal, the Mensheviks, Conservative Democrats Of Slovakia, and the African National Congress.

Specter, who rose to prominence on his theory that a single bullet passed through John F. Kennedy and struck Archduke Franz Ferdinand, continues to be hailed by Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell. "Both Arlen and me", said Rendell, "are the kind of Democrats for whom ethics and decency hold no challenge".
