Ok, it's official. Last night was not a fluke. Anderson Cooper just did it again. Sharp, deft, genuinely even-handed (ultimately shallow and ahistorical, of course, but that's another topic), he covered the Murtha speech and the White House response and cut the slick claim about Democrats having seen the "same intelligence" into precise slices that showed exactly why that phrase is misleading—but also nailed the very same Democrats for phoning it in and rolling over during the lead-up to the war. Then he wove in poll numbers and offered Vietnam analogies, once taboo, but now gaining credibility not only because they fit—but because the MSM is FINALLY SAYING SO.

I'm just reclining on my couch, watching the same screen regular folks see. I don't have any inside info. But it seems to me this has to be a CNN policy decision. Would they have put Cooper in there instead of Aaron Brown without knowing he was going to come down like this? I can't imagine that would happen.

If I'm right, this is really big. It can't be like Cronkite's pivotal judgment about the futility of the Vietnam war because there are just too many venues in the public square today. But it's as close as present circumstances allow.

What this means is that all right-thinking people should flood CNN (and Cooper) with grateful and supportive emails and challenge other MSM outlets to live up to the simple standard this show set these last two nights...
