11 of the Weirdest Christmas Images From My New Book (PHOTOS)

Posted: 11/15/10 07:21 AM ET

Some people want to know why I've got a whole chapter of holiday drawings and paintings in my art book (for what it's worth: "The Art of Tim Burton"). I've always loved the holidays. Maybe it has something to do with growing up in a California suburb, where the only way to tell the passing of seasons was when people broke out the holiday decorations. Christmas has always been one of my favorites. I love the gaudy decorations people strew everywhere and the idea of snow before I ever got to experience it. My other favorite is Halloween, and the combination of the two was where the inspiration for "The Nightmare Before Christmas" came from. Of course anything that I felt a kinship towards came out in my artwork. Here is a sampling of a few of my favorite Christmas pieces that appear in the book.

Your work makes me smile, you have such a clever and interesting aesthetic.

(Why aren't you directing the remake of Rocky Horror?
A sexy, stylish, more refined Rocky Horror would be awesome.)

I hope that you will be able to use your extraordinary gifts to help the world and America with the great problems.

How about a cute whimsical allegorical film about two fake opposition parties who keep the common people divided against themselves secretly controlled by the Elite...

Good luck with the book sales.

I am NOT into Xmas and have not been for many years. I have my doubts about Thanksgiving too and Halloween is very very questionable....now New Year's Eve is cool.

I'm glad Tim was born when he was. If he grew up a generation later he may very well have been diagnosed with some sort of disorder and prescription-drugged back to normalcy.

Then we'd have no Beetlejuice. And the world would be a worse place.

I've never seen a Nightmare before Christmas. Halloween is #1, Christmas #2
Perhaps I've lived under a rock all these years. Love his art!

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a great story. I watch it several times a year. It is compasionate and loving in the face of a horrible monster. It applies to so much in life. Jack Skellington is my favorite fantasy person in the world. His stick body and his deep loving emotions are wonderful.

Tim Burton's art is exactly as one would expect -- whimsical and slightly creepy, not scary. Nightmare Before Christmas is a classic at my house.

I have to have this book. Down here in the South we have alot of people who leave decoratons up year round. It has become a family tradition to ride around taking pics of the tackiest we can find. It's a blast. One of my faves has to be the 1967 Impala that is still covered n lights after, well this will be 6 years! The Nightmare Before Chrstmas is a must see too! Tim Burton has that perfectly whacked sense of humor! Love it!!

I already ordered your book, Tim. You didn't have to do this to me. You didn't have to subject me to these...these...these delicious pieces of artwork, to highlight the pain of waiting for Christmas to be able to open it. Your book. I have to wait. To open it.

Speaking of deliciousness, if you tied me to a chair and forced me to pick a favorite, it would have to be the cannibalized Christmas tree. Love it! Or shall I say...Lovett? That tree isn't going to be made into a pie, by any chance, is it?
