A Look Back at the 2012 Democratic National Convention Selection Process

Now that Charlotte has been named as the host city for the 2012 Democratic National Convention we're going to take a look back at how it came to be.

I think Charlotte remains the front-runner for the convention, purely based on the state's political significance.

The official announcement of Charlotte's bid came on May 24th

DCW has learned that Charlotte has submitted a bid to host the 2012 Democratic Convention. Charlotte joins Minneapolis and St. Louis as cities which have submitted bids to host the convention. We're still waiting to hear if Cleveland, Philadelphia or Phoenix actually submitted bids. The deadline to submit bids to the DNC was last Friday, May 21.

Charlotte was named as one of four finalists along with St Louis, Cleveland and Minneapolis on June 30th.

I'm excited to announce that four cities have been selected as finalists to host the 2012 Democratic National Convention: Charlotte, North Carolina; Cleveland, Ohio; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and St. Louis, Missouri.

Charlotte overcame concerns from the LGBT community, the NAACP and Unions to pull out a win.
