University of California system President Janet Napolitano credited sexual assault survivors and their advocacy groups with raising the issue of rape on campus to a point where school leaders can no longer avoid the issue.
Officials say this is a first-in-the-nation team.
"When we send our young people away for college, we want them to have an enriched learning experience, and they shouldn't have to suffer from what we know is a crime," Jarrett said. "And it's happening to the point where it's really an epidemic."
The school said there wasn't enough evidence to move forward on Sam Ukwuachu's charges, but a court just convicted him of sexual assault.
He now faces up to 20 years in prison.
