Columbia's student newspaper quoted Columbia President Lee Bollinger as telling a school convocation: "We look forward to welcoming back our most famous alumnus, Barack Obama, in 2017."
The school says letting the student continue her mattress protest was a "decision at the heart of academic freedom."
"We're all disgusted by the bad image they're giving our saint," Mother Maria del Carmen said.
"Even if it's not because of bias, it might be because of incompetence."
