Ethiopian Airlines
“All of those planes are grounded effectively immediately,” the president said hours after Canada grounded the aircraft following the Ethiopian Airlines crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration said there was "no basis" to ground the plane, despite the recent crash in Ethiopia.
The FAA has resisted calls from Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Mitt Romney and others to ground the aircraft until a full investigation is complete.
Boeing has said it has no reason to pull the aircraft from the skies.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
Two airplanes of the same model were involved in crashes within five months, including an Ethiopian Airlines flight on Sunday.
Some 157 people, including 8 Americans, were killed when an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 jetliner crashed shortly after takeoff.
Investigators located the black box from the crashed Ethiopian Airlines flight, though it is partially damaged.
The Nairobi-bound flight crashed six minutes after departing Addis Ababa.
