WHAT'S HAPPENING
The fact that my progressive parents struggle to integrate nonbinary pronouns into their lexicon is a stark reminder of how much work we need to do.
It matters to bear a pronoun that matches the person I am.
Marriage is still widely understood to mean either opposite-sex or same-sex couples, a view that ignores both nonbinary couples (like my own) and polyamorous unions.
Why confine myself to the gender binary -- where neither felt right -- for the sake of others?
