Among the diesel models officials named as being in violation of U.S. laws are the Porsche Cayenne sport utility vehicle and five Audi models.
Volkswagen admitted in September it had installed software in 11 million cars to evade emissions tests.

WHAT'S HAPPENING
After admitting that it had rigged cars to cheat on emissions tests, the company has posted its first loss in more than a decade.
Some analysts have said the scandal could cost the German company as much as 35 billion euros ($40 billion) to cover vehicle refits, regulatory fines and lawsuits.
"Either your organization is incompetent, or they are complicit."
Sen. Ron Wyden says the carmaker "may have defrauded its way into economic gain at the taxpayer's expense."
Of course he thinks that.
