There's going to be a party on Broad Street for the next week straight, and rookie quarterback, Nick Foles, will be leading the charge.
The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon, 23-21, after coming from behind at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The Eagles sealed their win on a last second touchdown coming from a Jeremy Maclin 1-yard completion from Foles.
This was the second walk-off touchdown for the Eagles in the Andy Reid era, and was the first Eagles victory in 70 days which finally snapped an eight losing streak for the Broad Street Bullies. Even though the win momentarily electrified a football-happy Philadelphia, a bigger win came while in Tampa.
The progression of rookie quarterback Nick Foles in a few short games, could arguably be the biggest victory for the Eagles' Head Coach, Andy Reid. The former Arizona Wildcat set a new Eagles rookie record with 381 yards on 32 completions in 51 pass attempts with two touchdown passes and finishing with a 98.6 quarterback rating.
Even though Foles has begun to solidify himself as a capable starter in the NFL, he'll probably need to have a few more convincing games at the end of the regular season in order to keep his job as a starter. But this certainly does help his cause.
In his young career, Foles has had some of the best games a rookie quarterback could ever expect to have.
Foles became the third rookie quarterback in NFL history with at least 350 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns and no interceptions in a game. He joins a group being spearheaded by Billy Joe Tolliver in 1989 for the San Diego Chargers and Andrew Luck earlier this season for the Indianapolis Colts.
Whether or not Foles becomes an elite quarterback in the NFL, he has shown that he has a well of untapped potential at his position. After finishing his collegiate career as one of the best pocket-passers in the history of the University of Arizona (10,068 & 71 total touchdowns), Foles can make a difference with a full year with the Eagles.
Foles has got to be feeling good.
