Vassar College, located in Poughkeepsie, New York, is one of the more prestigious liberal arts schools on the East Coast. Students are anything but conformist, and although the rigorous academic environment is geared to learning for its own sake, the close-knit alumni network is definitely an advantage post-graduation. Vassar undergrads are obsessed with their school. Rightfully so, since they walk through beautiful Gothic architecture to small classes where everyone participates in discussions led by renowned professors.

Brian, a History Junior, glows when speaking of his school. "Vassar is a wonderful place to go to college--I honestly could not be happier. There is definitely a lot of pressure and a lot of work, but it is also incredibly fun. The people are so interesting and so motivated; I never stop meeting fascinating people who have accomplished amazing things and yet are very down-to-earth."

"The best thing about Vassar is the community," says Kay, an English Sophomore from Oklahoma. "We have a really tight knit student body, (sometimes called the Vassar bubble). I actually really like the size of the school, because it's big enough so that students don't feel confined, but small enough so that you can obtain the one on one relationship with the professors and administration."

UW – Madison topping the list came as a shock to me.

Way back when, when Playboy ranked party schools, they refused to rank Madison, because in their words: “We rank amateur party schools and Madison is a professional party school.

Since then UW – Madison has occasionally been surpassed as the number one party school. Yet take heed. It’s easy to party in. It’s also easy to wash out off if you take your partying too seriously.

First, BMM22, you are not doing Hillary any favors by brandishing her brand and being such a snob! Second, we all know the east coast has some fabulous schools, but check the worldwide rankings and you'll see some other U.S. schools that rank high --- very high (Hint: the one where the students are happiest). Scholars exist all over the place, doll. One reason why Badgers may be so happy is that they have the best of both -- I've seen it, and it's real. I'm a summa cum laude Wolverine, so you'd think I might be a snob about UW, but I'm not. Let's accentuate the positive, shall we? P.S. Hillary rocks, I'll grant you that. Go Blue!

"Daddy has money" and "liberal arts" seem to dominate in this list. School of hard knocks still to follow...

As a Michigan State University grad (and IMHO, the true B1G rivalry is now Wisconsin and MSU) - I've been to UW-Madison...all rivalries aside...great campus...great people...great parties.

this is ridiculous, there is no way that GW is No. 5. Kids are constantly transferring and telling me how unhappy they are. and yes, I do attend. it's a good school with a beautiful campus and great opportunities, but GW houses a whole new breed of trust fund baby.

I actually transferred to GW from a school that brings nightmares to my memory. GW is great in that you can do whatever you want and nobody will care. Both your student life and your personal life could be private if you want. It's also one of the best places in the nation for internships. I do understand the trust fund baby issue though. There is a large number of students who drive $60k + cars, who've probably never worked a day in their lives, and who look down upon you if you're not dressed like they are etc. But that's the East coast for you...

The internships are available...they're just with no-name nonprofits and startups, not exactly what I call great opportunities. It's incredibly competitive and just way too much. And for reference, the girl that gave her testimonial (the first one) actually transferred. And yes, I know her, and yes we're friends. Just thought it was ironic!

As someone who went to Wisconsin for undergrad, yes, I can say that it was an amazing experience and a great place to party, but the academics are also really a big deal as well. There is a reason that Wisconsin graduates as many CEOs at Harvard. The "quotes" from supposed Wisonsin students above are ridiculous.
