Health is wealth, and as cliche as that may sound, it isn't far from the truth. One would think having good health is the easiest item on the checklist, how wrong. The challenges faced everyday in the pursuit of attaining a healthy lifestyle is as real as it gets. The temptations of junk food and lazy habits get harder to overcome as we grow older. However, a healthy life can be lived when right habits are cultivated. Sadly, not too many people know how to cultivate these habits. A few listed here can be tried to achieve great results this summer.

Healthy eating- This is arguably the most important rule. Eating healthy foods, fruits and vegetable should be top on your to-do list everyday. It'll help boost your immune system, reduce the risk of heart diseases and generally keep you healthy. Cutting on your meal portion could help you live healthier and longer.

Forgiveness- It would amaze you the amount of stress that can be caused you when you carry the weight of unforgiveness in your heart. Forgiveness they say does more good for the forgiver than the forgived. Indeed I agree. Forgiveness releases you from a bondage you didn't know you were locked in. Letting go of wrongs that were done to you, gives you a general mental wellness that's necessary for a healthy lifestyle.

Good sleep- In a fast paced world as this, it's almost difficult to snatch some 7-8 hours of good sleep before the next cycle begins. It then becomes necessary to make deliberate efforts to get some sleep. Turn off your TV and phones and let your body get some much needed rest.

Laugh- Laugh out loud indeed. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies. It triggers endorphins, a natural feel-good chemical and that could do you a world of good if it's released in large quantities on a daily basis. Laugh through whatever it is that aches you. It indeed is the best medicine.

Family and friends- Research shows that you're at a much greater risk of heart disease without a network of family and friends. Loneliness can cause a lot more damage than we care to admit, therefore, while we can, we should spend ample time with family and friends. Don't give room for depression to fester in, reach out and embrace the healthy lifestyle of keeping good company.

Stay active- It's quite essential that as you grow older you seek different ways to stay active and physically engaged. As kids it was almost a natural habit to jump around and sweat it out but as adults, it's not quite the same. Especially when your job requires you to sit still behind a computer, then you need to consciously stay active. Go running with your son, have a lot of sex with your spouse, build a nice garden cabin or garage with your family, go dancing with friends, play football with the boys. Whatever you choose to do, be sure to stay active.

Healthcare screening- As often as you can, visit your doctor for no other reason but to have a general checkup. You really don't have to wait till you feel something is wrong before you visit a hospital. Make it part of your lifestyle to have some routine health care screening.
