Gates: New US Carrier In Gulf A "Reminder" To Iran

"How would you like someone who is 10x more extremist than the US right-wing having a nuke?"

So - when do you plan to invade Pakistan? Oh that's right - we're good friends with their dictator - and they don't have much oil either. By the way, "10x more extremist" is not an accurate description. Watch the documentary film "Jesus Camp" if you want to see just how extremist the reich-wing is.

Ok - so let's game this out. What would happen if Iran used nuclear weapons? If we didn't immediately turn them into a glass parking lot, they would become a global pariah, even more than they are currently. The entire world, including many Middle Eastern countries, would unite against them, invade their country, and crush their government.

It's time to change your diaper. posted 04/30/2008 at 11:57:58
What was our mission over there again? Arming and training the Iraqis? As they stand up, we stand down, right?

I'll tell you what's ironic - the fact that we want to invade Iran in part because of our suspicions that they may be arming and training the Iraqis. posted 04/30/2008 at 11:39:38

The Undeniable Virtue of Jeremiah Wright's Pro-Blackness (and the Problem with Pro-Whiteness)

Mr. Ridley,

For the fist time, I completely agree with you. For all of you who are so offended by Rev. Wright's "racism", go back and sustitute the word "Jewish" for "black" in Hannity's quote, and tell me if it still sounds "racist". It doesn't, because Jewish people are a minority. Perhaps the "racism" you percieve isn't in Rev Wright's remarks at all.

To Mr Ridley, I can assure you that when Obama is officially the party's nominee, your conservative "friends" will only try harder to fan the flames of hatred in this country, hoping they will consume him. Meanwhile, we Liberals, as "bigoted" as you may feel we might be, are hoping that he will instead be judged by the content of his character, rather than the color of his skin. posted 04/25/2008 at 18:57:09

Decide in Denver; That's What Conventions Are For

"The importance of Democrats winning this election over-rules your argument"

There's your mistake. He has no interest in the democrats winning. He mentions Ike "had to wrestle for the nomination at the Republican National Convention", which indicates he has looked at the history of primary contests that are unresolved before the convention. He fails to mention that it was the only exception to the rule - every other time in the past 50 years, when a party has been unable to resolve their primary contest before the convention, that party loses the general election: Ford/Regan in '76, Carter/Kennedy in '80, etc. posted 04/25/2008 at 09:28:30

My biggest problem with Hillary, even before the kitchen sink went flying, was the 23rd Amendment question. Who wants to open the door for a future run by Laura Bush?

My next biggest problem with her is that you can never know where she really stands - because she doesn't even know herself: she waits until we're ready to "cross that bridge", and then has one of her pollsters help her determine which way the political winds are blowing at the time.

It's been quite interesting to watch her transformation during the primary process: when she was still the "inevitable" candidate, she felt she needed to "beef up" her "commander-in-chief" credentials, so she was trying to out-bush bush. posted 04/21/2008 at 15:04:34

Krugman: Obama Clinging To A Stereotype

As a "well respected economist", he doesn't seem to understand the long term effects of Clinton's free-trade policies on our economy.

While we open global markets for American good and services, we also open global markets for American jobs. We are able to buy cheaper goods from China, and cheaper services from India; however big corporations are able to buy cheaper labor as well. This is a win-win situation for big business, but it's a net loss for American workers. While we are able to save money on goods and services, we are forced to compete with workers who are willing to do our jobs for pennies on the dollar. The free-market forces of supply and demand for labor are therefore working against us - when the global supply of cheap labor rises, but the global demand stays the same, prices (wages) go down. These forces are also currently working against the environment in much the same way, which is why a cap-and-trade system makes sense. posted 04/18/2008 at 12:00:36

PA voters are going to put an end to it. With even a 1 point victory for Obama, it will be clear that it's time for Hillary to throw in the towel. Worst Debate Ever? Demographics Anyone?

"Do you think this wasn't researched well in advance and that the questions fed Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos weren't geared to that audience?"

In fact I don't think the questions were geared for that audience - it was a debate between democrats. No, the questions were geared toward a republican audience. After they finished re-hashing the weeks old "scandals" from both candidates, they proceeded to lecture them on tax and military policy.

Raising the cap on Social Security was a "tax increase" - nevermind the solvency of the program; it would cost more money for INDIVIDUALS making over 100k per year.

Lowering the capital gains tax supposedly raises the tax revenue - another republican myth. The increased tax revenue obviously has nothing to do with the fact that the elite wage earners - CEOs and hedge-fund managers - have seen their earnings rise at the highest pace since the Gilded Age, while the wages of ordinary workers have been stagnant. But nonetheless, we should shift more of the tax burden away from the elites, and onto the backs of the middle class.

We're supposed to let the "commanders on the ground" decide whether we should pull out of Iraq. Subsidizing Israel's military is not enough - we should let them join NATO, and treat any attack on Israel as an attack on the US. We cannot allow Iran to produce fissile material, and we should bomb them if they do. posted 04/18/2008 at 10:28:11
