Kerry Swiftboater: "We Will Attack Obama Viciously"

He will handle it with a speech yes. That is what Kerry should have done. I'm not sure why you use the word "pretty". I think he has done a good job on speaking in response to events like Rev. Wright. It is HRC who says nothing, well she says whatever she thinks will get her votes from whatever audience she is in front of regardless of anything she said or did before. I agree that her speeches are anything but "pretty". posted 05/14/2008 at 13:40:05

Does Obama Even Need The Jewish Vote?

I don't think he is counting on winning Florida. He is looking to the west, states that voted red but are now pissed off about the economy and the war. He knows Florida is incapable of voting for a multi-ethnic progressive. And he knows if it is close in Florida the republican machine there can work the system to their advantage. Working hard to win Florida would be a waste of time. posted 05/14/2008 at 15:57:36
Terrorists can smell weakness? Jews have danger-radar? Give me a break. We have had terrorism to deal with since the Johnson administration. Bush was President when the most effective attack occured. Terrorism is part of the landscape now and Obama will deal with it better than Bush. Churches are full of ranting ingnorance, it is more dissapointing to me that Obama attended church at all. posted 05/14/2008 at 15:43:52

How John McCain Can Rescue the Republican Party

The people who voted republican in the past will again. What else can they do, admit they were wrong in the past? All McCain has to do is what he has been doing, mix the maverick message in with the same Reagan messages that Bush used. Taxes are evil, we are under attack, government is corrupt, voting democratic is treason... Regular republicans and Fox News will maintain the buzz about Obama being a Black Anti-American, Moslem terrorist sect member. It will be another close election and swing states will be critical. Yawn. The trick for democrats will be to develop a strategy to keep the election out of the hands of the Supreme Court. posted 05/12/2008 at 16:32:46

Toobin: A McCain Court Could Overturn Roe In "Maybe A Year"

I'm pro-choice but abortion isn't the only thing the Supreme Court can mess with. Most of our environmental protection has come from court decisions. With politicians in the pockets of the corporations, and zoning commisions etc. dominated by developers pushing pet projects, the environment has been dying the death of a thousand cuts. The courts have been the only friend of sustainable life. posted 05/12/2008 at 16:12:18

White Men

I'm a white guy who voted for Obama, because he is the most progressive candidate. A lot of people are saying white guys are to blame for the mess we are in. Well, I say conservatives are to blame, including conservative women and minorities. People are stubborn, especially conservatives, but eventually there will be progress despite conservative resistance. And some day history will show that women and minorities will have an equally dismal record of performance in government as white guys. posted 04/21/2008 at 14:41:04

The Simple Arithmetic of Republican Failure

I agree that our taxes should match our spending. Most the budget is military or entitlements, not pork. Well, a lot of the military budget is pork, but little of the budget is bridges to nowhere. Not that I support pork spending. Entitlements like social security and medicare have been paid for by people and shouldn't be taken away. You could cut public and indian housing which is 5% of the military budget, or food stamps which are 6% of the military budget, but it has been shown that some spending on aid results in less spending overall. If you eliminate NASA or some other non-aid agency altogether it is meaningless, because the budget for Nasa is 2.5% of the military budget. The budget for the EPA is 1% of the Military. And the military budget I am talking about doesn't include the money for fighting in Iraq! When republicans talk about reducing government it is code for reducing the governments ability to regulate business, not reduce the budget. posted 04/21/2008 at 15:28:25

Iwo Jima Vets Slam Time Cover, Dismiss Global Warming As "A Joke"

Those weren't smears they are facts. My discussion point is that you are equating the ideas of journalists and conspiracy nutjobs to theories and models that come out of the scientific community. If you want to rebuke the science community with a journal article about this tree do it, posting here doesn't actually count as a win. posted 04/21/2008 at 16:15:54
Yawn, you guys used to be amusing but now you just sound like crack pot conspiracy nerds. The second article is written by the science editor of a podunk newspaper! Your first URl is a piece written by a writer who according to his book Order out of Chaos
(http://infowars-shop.stores.yahoo.net/pauljoswator.html) believes the following:

Both the Clinton and Bush administrations protected Osama bin Laden and the Al-Qaeda network before September 11;

. The highest levels of the US government were complicit in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon;

. Many of the named 9/11 'suicide hijackers' are still alive and the real culprits have never been officially identified;

. British MI5 have infiltrated the IRA and are carrying out terrorist attacks to maintain a divided Ireland;

. Chaos mongers are arming tyrants worldwide as a pretext for endless war and empire building;

. A despotic New World Order is being constructed, how it threatens us all and what we can do to stop it. posted 04/18/2008 at 14:29:27

He Blinded Me Without Science

Sorry, I just don't get your point. What can scientists say other than ID isn't science? Debate over. There aren't any scientists being paid to refute every crackpot publication the ID PR people crank out, scientists have real science tasks to accomplish. My understanding now is that the ID people are saying "there is a debate so it should be taught" but that is just a lie. What can you say to people who believe liars? You want your kid to have a shot at being a research biologist? Teach evolution. posted 04/21/2008 at 16:29:07
From your URL:

"Those in the social sciences are more likely to believe in God and attend religious services than researchers in the natural sciences, the study found. "

The biggest problem in science today isn't the mixed up curriculum. There are way more qualified people than there are jobs in theoretical science. These qualified people developed skills despite the curriculum. Maybe the biggest problem for getting your kids a job in science is the curriculum at your school. There arn't any jobs in science for students of the bible because you can't apply bible knowledge to science problems. Most people will not become scientists, and won't be able to spend the time and energy needed to keep up with scientific debate and advance. People who demonstrate abiltiy and get a bit lucky will move into the Ivory Tower of Science because they are elite, just like any other form of endeavor. There is an Ivory Tower for Athelitcs, Medicine, Business, Government. Well ok I guess any idiot can get into government, bad example. What is the Popes' Tower made of? posted 04/18/2008 at 16:36:05

We shouldn't use Imperial Edicts! That would be evil, unless of course we are religious leaders. I think it would be worthwhile in a class to discuss how scientists are creating new life in the lab using intelligencd rather than the by the old-fashioned soup in a shaker method that we in the science community have been blinded by our years of study to believe in. Wait, aren't the scientists using intelligence to make life in the lab the same scientists who believe in the theory of evolution? Wow, those guys are messed up big time. posted 04/18/2008 at 15:35:32
Putting ID on an equal footing with evolution is impossible. The teacher would have to say that ID is on an equal scientific footing with the theory of evolution. There simply is no scientific theory of ID so the teacher would have to lie. ID is a religous belief in a God of some kind. posted 04/18/2008 at 15:27:39
You've done a great job of memorizing and regurgitating the sound bytes that the Bible Creationist PR people have come up with. But it is all nonsense, evolution theory does not conflict with any other science theory including thermodynamics. These criticisms of science are all based on the presumption that there is a god and only he could construct a world that looks so complex. People presumed the world was flat long ago because it looked flat. These PR questions were settled long ago in scientific circles, go get an education, read an genuine science journal, quit wasting our time. posted 04/18/2008 at 15:14:17
Reframe the debate? What debate? Scientists are not debating the scientific merits of ID. Scientists finished ID off back before it was called ID. There were a couple of papers published but those papers did not create a scientific debate, they created PR for the religous groups that want the Bible version of creation taught in public schools so they don't have to pay for private schooling based on the Bible. posted 04/18/2008 at 15:02:20

Bush Speaks About His Concerns Over Rush To Fix Global Warming

The father of climatology? There is no such person.

The literature survey by a "Medical Researcher" that has been "submitted" to the journal Energy and Environment? You can create any result you want in a literature survey by simply constructing rules that lead to the conclusion you desire. Any quack can "submit" a paper to a journal. Why doesn't the Daily Tech tell us about the hundreds of published papers that explicitly state and prove man-made green house gases are not causing global warming? Because no such papers exist, most papers discuss some aspect of climate modeling, or climate data without bothering to state the obvious fact that they are studying climate change because it exists. So, 48% endorse climate change, 45% don't bother to mention it. 6% supposedly reject a man made contribution? I bet they don't, I bet the Daily Tech is an fossil fuel industry funded gang of swift boating liars. posted 04/16/2008 at 14:03:55
