Potential Baby Names for Will and Kate

Since the announcement that Prince William and Kate Middleton are expecting their first child, there has been much speculation on the sex and potential names of the baby. Lets see if some research can help us make some educated guesses.

Since the announcement that Prince William and Kate Middleton are expecting their first child, there has been much speculation on the sex and potential names of the baby. Lets see if some research can help us make some educated guesses.

Potential Boy Baby Names:

According to the Office for National Statistics the top baby names from England and Wales for 2011 were Harry, Oliver, Jack, Alfie, Charlie, Thomas, Jacob, James, Joshua, William, Ethan and George. We can most likely eliminate Harry, Charlie and William because those names already exist in the immediate family.

We can also look at the history of names in the family. According to the House of Windsor Family Tree, the most common names used and re-used in the family are George, Frederick, Edward, Albert, James, Henry, John, Alfred and William. Cross-referencing these lists, we have a great list of potential baby names for William and Kate. Here are the top five:

1. George
2. James
3. Alfred
4. Frederick
5. Edward

Potential Girl Baby Names:

Lets look at the most popular girls names in England and Wales. They were Amelia, Olivia, Lily, Jessica, Emily, Sophie, Ruby, Grace, Ava, Isabella, Evie, Chloe, Mia, Poppy, Isla, Ella and Sophia. According to the family history, a variety of girls names have been legacies including, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Victoria, Margaret, Mary, Louis, Alexandra, Beatrice, Amelia, Sophia and Caroline. We also might see Will and Kate honor Will's late mother Diana with a form of that name. Again, we see some potential cross-over. Here are the names that top five names that might be considered by William and Kate if they have a female baby:

1. Sophie
2. Amelia
3. Victoria
4. Elizabeth
5. Diana

Of course, this is all speculation, but it is fun to think about potential baby names for the couple as we wait excitedly for more news. Congratulations to William and Kate on their first child!
