FOOD PORN: From Farm To Table With Chef Alice Waters

Posted: Updated:

Introduction by Alyssa Bereznak, Vanity Fair; Photographs and captions by Alice Waters

A founder of America's farm-to-table movement, Alice Waters is a fierce advocate of home-harvested fare, evidenced by her request that we include an anti-Monsanto image alongside her shots of luscious produce. Sparking to France's artisanal approach to food while studying abroad, Waters famously built a network of Bay Area farmers, artisans, and producers to secure the best ingredients for her cuisine at her Berkeley restaurant. She went on to be the first woman to be named Best Chef in America by the James Beard Foundation, in 1992, and has since focused her efforts on educational outreach, heading the Edible Schoolyard Project at a local middle school and serving as a vice president of Slow Food International. Waters gave us a peek into her daily culinary life, sharing shots of fresh fish from her trip to Morocco, colorful Indigo Rose tomatoes, and a Bastille Day display at Chez Panisse that looks entirely like a Renaissance-era painting.
