New Gay Channel Not Available To Most Of San Fran...

MTV is hoping millions of gay and lesbian TV viewers will be saying "I Want My Gay TV" today, when the cable network launches Logo, a major entry in the gay television sweepstakes. The irony is that the channel won't be available to most Bay Area viewers -- but MTV says it's hoping to change that soon, perhaps as early as tonight.

"We are in active discussion with Comcast and making final negotiations," said David Bittler, vice president of communication for MTV Networks, which for more than two years has been preparing to launch the 24-hour, ad-supported cable channel devoted to the gay, lesbian and transgender community. The new channel will be available to DirecTV satellite service subscribers and to subscribers to RCN cable, which services a small number of Bay Area households.
