Knight Ridder Inc., the big U.S. publisher, on Thursday said second-quarter profit fell due to declining circulation, while rival Tribune Co. recorded higher earnings, although advertising revenue dropped.
Weaknesses at both companies underscored the industry trend of younger readers defecting to the Internet and other new media.
