Girl power's no new concept. Historically relegated to the home, kitchen or assistant's desk throughout their adult years, women have since pushed past these and other barriers to career success and created new futures for themselves. Not content with merely breaking the glass ceiling, however, businesswomen are now leaning in to the careers and lifestyles they want.
Beyoncé, perhaps, said it best when she belted, "Strong enough to bear the children, then get back to business." No longer feeling compelled to choose between career, marriage and children, the modern woman is confident she can have it all.
In a recently released national survey, LinkedIn and Cross-Tab explore today's women's definition of success and the obstacles still hindering them from moving forward in their careers. The majority of women (51%) feel their workplace success is inhibited by unclear career paths, while 44% noted inequalities in pay and struggles in balancing family life. A third (33%) believed they would be more successful if they had suitable mentors and role models.
