Joe Biden's pre-debate opponent, Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, says every statement by Sarah Palin last night was anticipated in debate prep. Granholm confirms that Biden's objective was to focus on the record of John McCain rather than react to Palin.

Granholm also revealed that Biden did not want to play "gotcha" when Palin made misstatements (such as claiming that Iraq troop levels are lower now than before the surge), and did not want to prepare a "you're no John Kennedy" moment.

Granholm was interviewed on Lansing, Michigan, radio station WILS by Walt Sorg.
