Primary Move-Up Considered by Indiana

The Indiana Assembly is starting to get the right idea:

Not only should Indiana consider moving up its place in the primary calendar, but they should consider challenging Iowa's primacy by going *before* Iowa. If enough states join them (namely states such as Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, and Florida), then the RNC and DNC will have little choice but to deny Iowa its status as kingmaker.

And it will indeed take many states to challenge the current party system. As we saw in 2008, two states weren't enough to take on such entrenched interests. If Indiana makes the right decision -- and enough states follow suit -- we'll be better on our way to perfecting a system which now tells the majority of us that we are 2nd-class to the citizens of Iowa.

Why can't they all happen at once? Why does any part of the country take precedence over any other part? I honestly don't get it!

I think there should be a single primary election day, nationwide. Make it a true horse race, not a relay.

My favorite suggestion for a new primary system (I don't remember where I saw it):

Divide the states into 4 groups, based on population (and include the other voting territories and districts). Then have four primaries, one a month, first the least populous states, then the next group, the next, and finally the largest populations.

Of course, this would take cooperation among all the states and political parties, so it is probably not going to happen. But it has a lot of good features.
