What's Your Reaction?

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Wednesday complained to Turkey over a new television drama airing there that depicts Israel Defense Forces soldiers as brutal murderers.

Lieberman instructed staff at the Foreign Ministry to protest in the face of their Turkish counterparts. He stressed that airing this type of show reflects a grave level of incitement against Israel - and with government approval.

The show, called Ayrilik, features a love story that develops between the lead characters during Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli media reports.

However, a partial episode available on YouTube depicts multiple images of the IDF brutalizing the Palestinian population by shooting children in the chest and kicking elderly people on the ground, among other things.

It is always a difficult thing to accept the facts as they are on the ground.

It is a sad commentary that the anti-Israel zealots will take any story, article or post and use it to spew their tired rhetoric. Anything positive is a lie anything negative is the abolute truth.
I swear half these people believe the Elders of Zion.

Folks when something smells this bad you don't have to taste to know it's c*ap.

Why don't you use your raging bluster in a positive way that might contribute to peace.
Both I/P are right and wrong - PEACE will come from compromise.
Work for peace - not futher bloodshed - there have been far to many innocents killed on both sides.
From Gaza to Israel - From bombs to suicide bombers to many have died.

Get over being on one side or the other and be on the side of peace and compromise - be a voice of what can be and not what was.

I believe in freedom of speech so the producer had the right to produce his c*ap.

I still believe that life if full of compromise - P & I will find their by looking to the future.
That future will come by not rehashing the long list of bad on both sides for the last 60 years but by seeing that both sides have an alternative.
Everyone needs to put their energy into the alternative.

The Turkish people have always supported the palestinian just plight...Sultan Abd el hamid of the Ottaman empire REFUSED an offer by the jewish agency to BUY Palestine as a province for 3 million denars...and so they resorted to the british to implement their take over of Palestine...the Turkish army finally realized that its strategic alliance with Israel was completely useless, it did not help them integrate with the EU, nor did it help them against the Armenian lobby in the US. Turkey finally smartened up and realized its true roots lie in the east. They're reconsiling with Armenia and gave up on EU. They're just siding with the true victims=Palestinians.

so turkey loves the palestinians so much? why dont they offer them refugee status then? they dont want them in their country, just like every other arab country...they just use the palestinians as pawns, they dont really care about them, they have actually been treated like crap by arab countries for 1300+ years, but the enemys enemy is my friend stategy i guess applies here.

Heck, they loooove them so much, why don't they give them citizenship? oh..."Immanuel Kant (18th-century Prussian philosopher) referred to European Jews as "Palestinians living among us."
You're right, the Jewish Palestinians are the victims!

Was this a documentary or even docudrama? Are you all sure it wasn't depicting past Turkish actions in the east? Seems those who are jumping to protest are reacting to something they find familiar. 24 is syndicated on Turkish TV and for some reason the Turks have managed to figure out it's a drama. I can only imagine how happy the producers are about this international advertising.

This is just an example of "fiction" following reality. I remember watching a video a couple of years ago of a "brave Israeli soldier" beating an unarmed Palestinian civilian mercilessly with a piece of broken concrete. Isriel OUT of Palestine. US OUT of America!!

I didn't see and IDF identifications but I guess there is a logical reason everyone is assuming the actors are depicting the IDF. I can't find any other military accused of such acts in the region.

What's anti-semitic about it? Anti-Israeli maybe. Anti-semitic--no.

And BTW, I've read accounts from IDF soldiers themselves, and seen pictures and videos of actual IDF forces, doing far worse than what is depicted here.

The only thing that struck me, in terms of verisimilitude, about the depiction of this armed street battle is maybe that kaffiyeh are not so commonly worn by Palestinian militants these days--but then I suppose one could find situations where you'd see a lot.

This is a major problem with the conflict. That anything said against Israel is considered antisemitic. As long as people hold on to that illogic, nothing will change.

Exactly. But the fact is that Israel does not represent the Jewish people. Some people who are fanatically pro-Israel, or simply seriously ignorant, don't understand that.

Unfortunately, your comment is not an accurate representation of the truth. At least it is not related to EU or anything. I guess it is very easy to talk or make comment when you know "nothing". Considering the ex-President Bush, I can understand....

Anyways.

The current matter is only related to Prime Minister's and its political party's action to satisfy their voting base, in other words, the poor souls they try to buy with money, food, coal, etc., (and succeed) in each election.

I don't agree with Israeli politics and a lot of people can consider what was shown on that series as a quite possible scenario (that is how Israel is viewed in many countries), however that is not the concern here. The concern here is to intentionally try to increase or create anger among Turkish citizens towards Jews using the state television. And use that excuse to create further mess. No one can say anything if that is to be broadcast on private TV channels. That is what private TV channels do in almost every country. Blame others using, if necessary, highly offensive techniques, even if they may not be true. However, using the state owned TV for that purpose is not an acceptable approach.

Continued:

I do hope, this and many other things caused by the current Prime Minister of Turkey help people in EU/US and other countries to understand what they are doing. This is the party that is believed to be elected with a significant help from US so as to market them as a good example of moderate Islam. They are not. They are closer to Taliban than EU in the mind.

Those who think that Israel incapable of such horrific actions should google the name, "Rachel Corrie" who was a 23 year old college student from Olympia, Wash. This young American woman wearing a brightly colored coat was plainly seen by the bulldozer driver but yet she was run over and then the driver backed up and ran over her again. WARNING: Some of the videos are quite graphic but thankfully it was taped so that people can see first and then listen to the lies told later by the Israeli government.

The Israeli Army does not target children and does more than any other army fighting an aggressive war against its citizens to avoid collateral damage.

Israel has a supreme court in which excessive force has been outlawed and Palestinians sue there and have won where individual soldiers have been excessive.

I am not defending Israel carte blanche and I support a free and independent Palestine but this is Blood Libel plain and simple.

Numerous human rights reports, as well as the recent Goldstone report, have proven that the Israeli Army does indeed target children. Our wishful thinking will not change facts.

If you didn't care when white phosphorus was used on a civilian population, why should you care now?

"am not defending Israel carte blanche"

Then don't regurgitate the denial and lies of pro-Israel zealots. The cruel tactics and criminal conduct of IDF soldiers are well-documented, even by Israeli organizations, even by IDF soldiers. This portrayal is fictitious but it reflects reality.
