Every year on March 8th, we celebrate #InternationalWomensDay. It’s a day to acknowledge that women serve, women solve, and women lead. It’s perhaps never been more important to consider these things. As when it comes to women’s empowerment and equality, the past year has given us plenty to consider. From Donald Trump’s boasting about predatory sexual behavior to Uber’s systemic sexual harassment. There’s still much more work to be done.
Worldwide, women earn 24 percent less than men overall. The World Economic Forum projects that at current rates of progress, it will take 170 years to close the gap. That’s 170 years too long, and at least as many years too late. As a result many women are protesting in the streets instead of heading to work today to show the impact of a #DayWithoutAWoman.
Similarly, on January 21, 2017, a collaboration of nine female filmmakers and women’s rights activists attended the Women’s March in D.C., to participate, document and add their voices to the feminist cause. The above video documents their experiences at the march and communicates and important message of empowerment with a musical score by Morley.
