Stop Stealing Other Cultures For Fun

There is nothing fun about seeing your culture appropriated and owned by an affluent middle class. It's time we stopped this despicable process. We need to stop branding the ideals of displaced people as something edgy.

Cultural appropriation comes with gentrification. It's often looked at as something fun unless you're on the losing side. There is nothing fun about seeing your culture appropriated and owned by an affluent middle class. It's time we stopped the despicable process of cultural ownership for fun.

We need to stop branding the ideals of displaced people as something edgy. For the ReyRoSho this problem is exacerbated when it comes to slang. Slang has become the new way to cannibalize a culture's ideals and turn them into something new again. There are inherent problems with appropriating something from another culture and claiming ownership over it.

Many people don't seem to understand that it's offensive to blatantly appropriate another culture. For some being blatant is viewed as the solution. Truth is, there is no clear solution outside proper acknowledgement.

The fetishization of foreign culture as something new and different in an attempt to be edgy is dangerous. It often leads to false claims of ownership and ignoring the history of displaced people. While urban growth is important. It's far more important that growth doesn't come at the cost of proper acknowledgement of the past and current culture of an area.
