With Thanksgiving around the corner, it's deep-fried turkey season. It turns out that a gobbler is far from the strangest thing that you can drop into boiling oil. We surveyed the New York restaurant scene to find some truly unique fried dishes -- they do say you can fry anything. From golden-brown grapes to fried burgers and pizza, click through the below slideshow to scope our favorite greasy goodies. Don't worry, they aren't as scary-looking as our list of the most horrifying dishes, but eat too many, and they can be plenty deadly to your waistline.

Julian Medina knows how to take Mexican food to the next level at the branches of his Toloache restaurant. While other chefs are busy frying up yucca, he is encasing slices of avocado in a golden-brown crust. The vegetable is battered in panko and chili flakes and served alongside some chipotle ketchup for dipping. The creaminess of the avocado goes surprisingly well with the crispiness off the crust. In fact, a few bites and you may start to wonder why avocado fries are not ubiquitous on menus around town.
